One of the best places to ride in this country is undeniably found in Mt Elgon and especifically Laboot Area. Although it can be a bit of drive for those from Nairobi and Mombasa, this area boasts without doubt some of the best riding in Kenya. Laboot has a little bit of everything: Streams, cliffs, slick-rock, giant human-crushing boulders, and epic sceneries including Africa’s largest Caldera and an Elephant maternity. It is remote – extremely so – and has been labeled by many riders as the ultimate adventure destination. Demanding both intense physical and mechanical skills, the terrain can be unforgiving.

In one way or another, most of us get mired in some boring routine in our lives. Travelling is a mental revitalising pill every needs. A different setting will help you discover fresh ideas about life. How other people live and how best to improve your own life.
There is no better way of rejuvenating than going out to conquer the wild. Kenya is a vast country and there is a lot that nature can provide. I speak for Mt. Elgon. Its distinctive features, the flora and fauna
There are many wonderful places in Mt. Elgon and indeed, everyone has their wonderful place in mind. Mine is Laboot. Laboot has made me happy a lot of times. Sometimes i think am the only person who likes this place and i keep asking myself if this place will still be as beautiful as i thought when i go back to visit
My first morning in Laboot is still ached in my memory and feels like yesterday. At around 5.30 am, we began to witness a mixture of yellow and orange on the eastern horizon beneath a dark neon blue ocean of night that began to evaporate. Against the tri-colored rainbow sky, trees and hills were like shadows. The sound of cattle mooing and birds chirping in a distance reminded me of my village life as a child. I felt nostalgic. That calmnes lifted my spirit to levels never witnessed before.
As though nature conspired to have the right inhabitants for this place, burried deep in the forest and hardly seen in crowds as is the case with city life is a population of wonderful people of Kalenjin descent called Ogiek. They have a rich culture that is second to none. Their traditional dance reminded me of the Maasai’s Adumu. On first encounter, they passed as an illerate lot but we later learnt Ogieks have produced academically accomplished persons of high repute locally and internationally.
I welcome you to take a day and come with me. Adios!
039 Elgon 4X4 Challange concluded on 22nd October, 2017after two days of intense offroad competion. Seventeen participants took the start in the town of Bungoma and although that might not sound like such a big number, they came from as far and wide as Narok, Kajiado,Nairobi, Eldoret, Nandi, Kakamega and Trans Nzoia.
The Challenge itself was least anticipated. At first glance, Kamuneru Special Section did not look the most inspiring in the world especially compared to others like TeaZone and Daraja Mungu, but put seventeen of the country’s best 4X4 in a rolling start, the spectacle created itself. At the top of the table was Hudson Khasian navigated by Samora Machel only two points ahead of Ismail Muneer from Narok.Gathecha Chris seemed headed for a convincing win with his Pajero but lost critical points for failure to participate on the second day.Andrew Keitany emerged fourth behind Max Waweru but really put up a wonderful show.
A surprise guest at the event and apparently the only lady participant was Agnes Waweru in her dashing Land Rover110 PUMA.Shegave boys a run for their money. PaulAgoi of LakeVictoria North Water Services Board was a true insipiration for Prado owners. His offroad skills were exemplary to say the least. Ronald Kidero despite skidding out of a useful rut into a ditch steered his Land Rover Defender masterflully to beat the notorious Kamuneru Challenge
All this was a culmunation of months of planning, recce, effort and money. We hope this report will provide useful information about the 2017edition of 039 Elgon 4X4 challenge.
